The base of the browser appears to be the same webkit that Apples Safari browser is based on. This means that it will be pretty much safari repackaged.

10:25 am The demo has concluded. Scott is now reading quotes from various developers discussing how great a development platform it is. 

10:24 am He hooked up the controls to the API and redisplayed it in the simulator showing off the functionality. The application was then loaded onto his actual iPhone, where he is showing how it actually works on the phone. Within 10 minutes, he had created this fully functional, location-based application.

•  Apple appear to be building up stock of flash memory - presumably assuming demand for the next phone, other iPods and perhaps the air
• iFund spends some cash - reports from BusinessWeek that Pelago is developing location specific software called Whrrl that provides information about places where you, your friends or anyone has been. From what I have found about this it will be an iTune style star rating of restaurants , bars etc that you have visited. Current figures show that about 1,700 people have applied to the iFund for backing with the only other investment being in iControl - a piece of kit that allows control of various household devices from lighting to curtains. One more unnamed company has been offered monies with ten more being seriously considered.
• Apple on the hire again. Wireless engineer and and iPhone product designer. Job specs including various wireless technologies including GSM,GPS and wifi. It’s gonna be a real shock if the next phone doesn’t have all these technologies as we expect!
• BBC released a load of figures about it’s iPlayer usage in April. Macs represented 10% of the users accessing the service with the iPhone adding an additional 3% to Apples tally. Not bad going considering the service has only been available for a few short months to these platforms
• TeliaSonera is to provide the iPhone to the Nordic states (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia) - about time they were feeling all left out
• Lots of news around the globe about iPhone offers. Rumors that there will be various offers in France to encourage users to upgrade to the iPhone from other handsets, Germany offering discounts to clear it’s inventory etc
• What about the next iPhone… well I believe that there will be offers from various companies across the world including O2 in the UK (which it is where it counts for me) that the new iPhone may be a free upgrade (at the right price as these things always are).  If I am right on this where does that leave the iPod Touch?! The end of the iPod Touch market - price points too close? To be honest I don’t care (I have my iPhone and I am happy )

Apple has become the largest retailer of music surpassing wallmart according to the NDP group. 50 mill customers 6 milliion songs (worlds largest)

What is O2 doing!

except that O2 is restricting most of its 3G customers in the UK to a much less enticing data transfer speed - just 128Kbps, while business customers get a slightly higher, but still limited, 385Kbps.

“O2 provides data speeds of 128Kbps as standard to all 3G customers. Profiles of corporate customers who require higher speeds are modified so that they can benefit from speeds of 384Kbps,” the company told The Register.

Customers wanting the higher speed connection can, apparently, simply ask for it when they buy their phone, or give O2 a call, the report explains, adding that users of 3G handsets on £35 or higher tariff can expect the higher speed.

8 gig iPhone for 99 euros - Macworld UK

Apple’s German iPhone network partner has been selling the 8GB model of iPhone for €399, but reduced the cost of that model to €99 late last week.

O2 has not chosen to emulate T-Mobile’s move, at least, not yet. An O2 spokesperson told Macworld UK: “We regularly examine all of our offerings to ensure they remain competitive and meet customer demands. We currently have no updates regarding iPhone pricing.”

“We believe that a fundamental part of our role as an ISP is to protect the rights of our users to use the internet as they choose. We will fight any challenge to the sanctity of this relationship with every legal option available to us,” he added.

Dunstone’s comments follow rumours that Virgin Media will be the first ISP to target illegal music file sharers. However, according to Digital Spy, Virgin Media has since denied taking part in a pilot scheme.

“We have not agreed to the three strikes scheme, not started trials with the BPI or any other rights holder, and not decided to snoop on customers and inspect their data,” a Virgin Media spokesman said.

Chief executive of the BPI, Geoff Taylor also denied any agreement with Virgin Media had been reached.

“Unfortunately it simply isn’t true that we have agreed a pilot - or any sort of deal - with Virgin Media, though we continue to work towards that. We think that every socially responsible ISP should help their customers avoid the illegal use of their broadband account,” he said in a statement.
