The poor thing must have been out on it’s first flight and failed in a miserable fashion and landed in my back garden where I found it (whilst doing the husbandly thing of putting out the rubbish).

One of my cats looked on in interest (do I save 50 pence on a tin of cat food or do I help the defenseless bird?).I picked it up and placed it in a near by tree where ‘mum and dad’ were sitting. Off mum and dad went to gather food for the scared little fellow and a hour or so later the baby bird took fight.

So what has this got to do with Macs you mat well be asking… well it was my cat that was going to eat it… big cats such as tigers and leopards also eat animals…

Job done!

Over the last few weeks I have been doing extensive research into Flash Media server and conferencing facilities. The good little mac fan I am I have been doing my development and testing on my Mac Book Pro (nothing like using own equipment for work purposes). I have discovered that when using the video/audio streaming from my Mac through the media server the CPU goes mad and the fans jump into life. The Mac gets very hot and makes an awful amount of noise…. Ok the solution:GET ADOBE FLASH PLAYER 10 beta!!!!! Adobe have changed some of the base code to move some of the processing from your main processor to your GPU (graphics card to you and me). I tried it today and it makes a huge difference. http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/

Right a long winded catchup on iPhone news…

Apple appear to be building up stock of flash memory - presumably assuming demand for the next phone, other iPods and perhaps the air

iFund spends some cash - reports from BusinessWeek that Pelago is developing location specific software called Whrrl that provides information about places where you, your friends or anyone has been. From what I have found about this it will be an iTune style star rating of restaurants , bars etc that you have visited. Current figures show that about 1,700 people have applied to the iFund for backing with the only other investment being in iControl - a piece of kit that allows control of various household devices from lighting to curtains. One more unnamed company has been offered monies with ten more being seriously considered.

Apple on the hire again. Wireless engineer and and iPhone product designer. Job specs including various wireless technologies including GSM,GPS and wifi. It’s gonna be a real shock if the next phone doesn’t have all these technologies as we expect!

BBC released a load of figures about it’s iPlayer usage in April. Macs represented 10% of the users accessing the service with the iPhone adding an additional 3% to Apples tally. Not bad going considering the service has only been available for a few short months to these platforms

TeliaSonera is to provide the iPhone to the Nordic states (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia) - about time they were feeling all left out

Lots of news around the globe about iPhone offers. Rumors that there will be various offers in France to encourage users to upgrade to the iPhone from other handsets, Germany offering discounts to clear it’s inventory etc

What about the next iPhone… well I believe that there will be offers from various companies across the world including O2 in the UK (which it is where it counts for me) that the new iPhone may be a free upgrade (at the right price as these things always are). If I am right on this where does that leave the iPod Touch?! The end of the iPod Touch market - price points too close? To be honest I don’t care (I have my iPhone and I am happy )

Well Not a very rounded news item and I thought I’d leave my last point as my prediction Enjoy your iPhones - right off to the iPlayer - what no Doctor Who!!! Damn Eurovision song contest

Yes… it has been a month…. what the hell have I been playing at?! To tell you the truth I have actually done another podcast. It was so witty, amazing and full of so much great content that you just wouldn’t believe it. I even uploaded it to the site and created a posting for it but….I forgot to actually publish the feed! Damn I am crap. Since then I have been away on my holidays (Rea Sea diving - it was awesome and I have a great tan) and also been on the joy that was Java training down in the sunny south. I am now back and ready to roll so expect a podcast and some blogging soon. I am not going to publish the last one as the news is too old and I am not sure you are ready for that kind of excellence from this podcast (I am so full of crap it’s untrue) Hope you are all well - please start commenting especially bad comments it’ll give me some fun for the show! :-) David

Well I might be exaggerating a little there but I was left without my laptop for a couple of days. In my house there are 3 macs that I have available to use. My Mac Book pro, a Mac Book that I bought for my misses and an old G4 tower. The other night my laptop got left in the back of the car and off drove the wife my ‘baby’ in the back. My initial reaction was one of dread - what can I do this evening! (Really must get a life). Never mind says I and drag out the Mac Book. I could not function at all on this machine. None of my software was available, the 4000 character passwords I use in 1Password were not there so could not access my email, membership websites etc. What I have learnt from this is that it I really need to do more than backup my mac I need to find solutions to store all the software I require, all the password in a central database and to be able to get up and running very quickly on any machine. Maybe I should buy a server? (any excuse to buy new hardware - do you think my misses will buy my excuse? )

I’m impressed! For any budding developers out there the range of examples that Apple have provided is impressive. Everything from accessing the accelerometer, bonjour networking, openGl, sqlLite and of course using the legendary multi touch functionality. Well done Apple. It’s the first time I have seen (from any company) such a great set of example applications that will allow you to develop anything you can think of and give all those potential ‘newby’ Mac developers a leg up into the Mac development world. Excellent!
